As children, we often saw the world as larger, stranger, more frightening than it really was. Then we look back from a distance and recognize those places as safer, brighter and smaller. But sometimes the opposite is true: reality is far more overwhelming than we recall.

What seemed small becomes infinite. What felt safe becomes unknowable. What looked sweet becomes unbearable. What was clear becomes blurred.
